RM#111, Fango#304 and Cartoon News

Not much news this week. A couple new magazine previews and some more cartoon on DVD announcements...

Fangoria #304
 Rue Morgue #111

Conan The Adventurer
The animated adventures of Conan is coming to DVD from Shout! Factory on July 26th. All 13 episodes rom the first season will be spread across 2 DVDs.

 Warner Archives Previews New Titles
Challenge of the Gobots, The Herculoids and Mister T are making their way to DVD thanks to Warner Archives. Here's a shot of an advertisement found in the Green Lantern Free Comic Book Day issue. As I mentioned previously, Swat Kats has been removed from their website, but maybe it will re-surface by the end of the year. Visit TVShowsOnDVD for more info.

***Just to let everyone know, there probably won't be any updates this upcoming week. Look for more posts in May!***

FAN ART FRIDAY - Nathan Rosario

Hollywood producers, please take note... if you ever decide to produce a Masters of the Universe movie, please hire Nathan Rosario as your character designer. Click here to check out all of Nathan's artwork or visit his website. His interpretations of MOTU characters are some of my favourites. I hope he continues to illustrate more characters and maybe even experiment in redesigning other classic '80s cartoons.

Thursday Cartoon Intro - DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

I have never seen one single episode of Dungeons & Dragons. I own the DVD of the complete series, but I haven't brought myself to watch an episode yet. The intro is probably one of the lamest of all of the '80s cartoons. Based on the role-playing game of the same name, the animated series was broadcast on CBS from 1983 until 1985 and lasted three seasons. All three seasons are currently available on DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment.

A Backlog of News

There have been quite a few announcements and previews for various upcoming magazines, DVDs and toys over the last few weeks. I've been so busy trying to get my life back in order that I completely forgot to post them on here. Better late than never!

To start with, here are some recent horror magazine releases and previews...

Fangoria #301 - no longer available in book stores
Fangoria #302 - This one may still be available in book stores
Fangoria #303 - upcoming April issue

HorrorHound #28 - You should still be able to find this on the shelves

Rue Morgue #109 - You'll have to purchase this one from their website
Rue Morgue #110 - Currently on book shelves

Now onto DVD/Blu-ray news...

Swat Kats
Looks like Warner Archives has pulled the Swat Kats MOD DVD release from their website. Turns out they were using the edited episodes and had to pull it. For those of you that grabbed a copy, lucky you...for everyone else, they may be re-releasing the DVD later on down the line with the unedited episodes.

Transformers: The Headmasters (The Japanese Collection)
Taking place one year after the end of the American (Gen One) Transformers (season 3), this season (presumably season 4) of Transformers was produced entirely in Japan by Takara. I've never followed Transformers very closely, but I think it's pretty cool that the Japanese continued the series, even after the Americans "finished" the series. Look for it on store shelves July 5, 2011.

Rocko's Modern Life
In addition to releasing the Japanese Collection of Transformers episodes, Shout! will be releasing season one of Rocko's Modern Life. The DVD is scheduled to be released June 21, 2011.

Beast Wars: Transformers - The Complete Series
Also coming from Shout! (yes, they are amazing) is the popular 90s Transformers prequel, Beast Wars. The set is scheduled to be released June 7, 2011 and will include all 3 seasons.
Shout! will also be releasing individual season sets.

G.I. Joe DIC 90s Series
Word on the street is that Shout! Factory will be releasing the DIC-produced G.I. Joe series onto DVD. No official announcement has been made yet. Only a small ad from Shout! states that the series is coming to DVD. Click here to check it out.

Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos
Exciting news for Chuck Norris fans, the complete series of Karate Kommandos is now available for pre-order from Warner Archives MOD website. Click here for more info.

M.A.S.K.
One of the most requested 80s cartoons will finally get a North American DVD release from Shout! and Freemantle. No release date has been announced as of yet, but stay tuned! Click here for more details.

BraveStarr
Bravestarr is getting a DVD re-release thanks to Mill Creek. They will be releasing the complete series at an affordable price, sans all the special features (found on the BCI releases). They will also be releasing two "best-of" volumes for the casual fan. Click here for more details. All three sets will be available May 10, 2011.

ReBoot Season 3 & 4
Here's a look at Shout! Factory's Season 3/4 DVD artwork of ReBoot. The DVD will hit shelves June 28, 2011.

Transformers G1 Complete Series Re-Release
Fans who missed out the super duper Transformers - 25th Anniversary Matrix of Leadership Edition: Collector’s Set, will get a second chance to own every episode of Transformers. Coming May 24, 2011, this set will include every episode, but will not include the bonus disc found in the 16-disc set. Click here for more.

Thundercats DVD Re-Release
Transformers and BraveStarr aren't the only cartoons getting a DVD re-release. Warner Bros. Home Ent will be re-releasing all 130 episodes of Thundercats on DVD, once again, on July 12th. The series will be broken up into slim releases with 12 episodes in each release.

As for horror news, here's a list of a few 80s and 90s titles that are coming soon to Blu-ray and DVD...

 The Nesting Blu-ray - June 28
